Arriving In Auckland

Arriving In Auckland

At approximately 8pm on Monday 1st December 2014, I arrived at Heathrow Airport for my first great solo adventure! I would be away from home for 5 months, with my first stop being New Zealand. The plan was to join the Kiwi Experience and spend about 4 weeks driving round both the north and south island. First I had a 12-hour flight to Hong Kong, then a 6-hour layover and finally another 12-hours onto Auckland!

The plan was to stay in Auckland with some family friends for two days before starting my Kiwi adventure on Friday 5th. They had an incredible house just north of Auckland in an area known as the North Shore. The first day I spent in bed relaxing at the house because I was completely exhausted from jet lag. This was not only the furthest that I had ever been away from home but also the greatest difference in time that I having to deal with, 13 hours ahead.

The second day I woke with a lot more energy and I was keen to get out and see what Auckland had to offer. I got some great suggestions for things to do and my first destination was the Sky Tower with panoramic views over the city. I then hopped on a bus over to the Auckland museum to learn about New Zealand's history and culture. I was especially looking forward to learning about the Maori culture while I was here.
